Jersey table tennis centre prepares for international games with lighting installation

MHA Lighting has completed an LED lighting installation at the Geoff Reed Table Tennis Centre in Jersey, in time for the NatWest Island Games at the end of June 2015.

The Channel Island of Jersey is hosting the biennial games, which will see more than 2,700 competitors take part in a range of sports, including archery, tennis and sailing.

New lighting installed by MHA Lighting at the St. Clement table tennis centre has exceeded lux level targets in the purpose-built facility, where a total of 11 islands will be taking part in table tennis tournaments from 27 June.

The company designed a bespoke solution for the centre installing 60 ‘LightStar 203’ LED luminaires. Overall lighting energy consumption was reduced by 61 per cent, according to MHA, providing an annual saving of £2.5k and an eight tonne reduction in CO2 emissions.

Sport England specifies 600 lux for community competitions and 850 lux for national competitions. The new lighting installation achieved 1,000 lux, creating an environment suitable for sporting activities featured on TV.
